In their study of Forces and Motion, 1st grade students read the 3 Little Pigs. Students then added a 4th Little Pig to the story. They designed and created the 4th Little Pig's house. Then they tested the strength of their house by blowing wind with blow dryers. Sometimes adjustments and retesting were needed. That's following the Engineering Design Process!!!
In their study of Earth Systems, Structures and Processes, students examined the PH levels of soil and created a terrarium. Mrs. Barksdale's class invited Mrs. Hester's class to visit and observe the different amounts of water different soils hold. Students experimented with clay soil, humus soil, and sandy soil.
Phases of the moon with oreos!
1st graders had fun creating 3D shapes with marshmallows and toothpicks.
1st Grade- Ms. Luckey's class. We did a Candy Science Experiment by making a rainbow out of Skittles. We decided that creating a pattern in the arrangements of the Skittles would give us the best result. We made predictions about what could happen and observed. We checked our predictions and discussed what happened when all of the colors mixed together.
1st graders had a wonderful experience mining for gems during their study of Earth Systems.
Mrs. Barksdale’s class ended their unit on soil by doing a fun activity with chocolate cups, crushed oreos, and gummy worms. Students learned about the layers of the soil then used the chocolate cups to recreate the soil layers.
